Tom Cruise is finally back on American soil after premiering Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol all over the world, and ET caught up with him at the action film's big NYC premiere.

"It just feels good with people being entertained," Cruise said about the latest installment in the franchise's already positive reception. "That's the whole point. That's what I want to do -- to put smiles on people's faces. It's very exciting."

Cruise also dished on his famous family's holiday plans.

"You know, we went to the Nutcracker theater, and of course we had to go to Rockefeller Center and did a little skating around there and saw the Rockettes -- Suri loves that stuff," he said. "It's kind of our family tradition, coming here to New York. It's beautiful."

And what does Suri want for Christmas?

"She actually doens't have that long a list," Cruise revealed. "But she loves her stuffed animals and stuff like that."

Also making waves at the premiere was Paula Patton, who walked the red carpet with her husband Robin Thicke.

"I've never been part of something like this. It's a real, surreal, amazing moment," Patton said giddily. "I feel like I'm in a dream and I'm very very very thankful."
