"You know, I've often wondered why it is we have children, and the conclusion I've come to is we want someone to get it right this time," says Kidman's character to Wasikowski. "But not me. Personally speaking, I can't wait to watch life tear you apart."

This pleasant little speech takes place in a story that finds adolescent India (Wasikowska) adrift after the death of her father (Dermot Mulroney), clashing with her unstable mother (Kidman). When her mysterious and charming Uncle Charlie (Goode) -- a man she never knew existed -- comes to live with them, she comes to suspect he has ulterior motives, yet becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
