Something Sinister this way comes, and it's clear that Ethan Hawke and his family need to get out of their house now! The star tells ET that he finally agreed to do a scary movie if the character he'd play was serious and interesting, "because I don't want to just play the guy with the chain saw or something like that."

"What I think is fun about these scary [movies] is it plays on everybody's superstition … the things we can't control," says Ethan. "[We're] just trying to have our life have some shape and order to it, and then along comes the monster and it wreaks havoc on everything. I think it's fun."

In theaters Friday, Sinister finds Ethan as Ellison Oswalt, a dad and true crime novelist who discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies at his family's new home. Soon, a strange, sinister entity begins to appear on images all around the house, plunging Ellison and his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror. The film is produced by Ethan's friend, Jason Blum, producer of Paranormal Activity and Insidious.
