Today, Christina Applegate gave credence to the rumors that Kristen Wiig will be joining the cast of Anchorman 2 via her Twitter feed.

"So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for Anchorman 2," tweeted Appelgate, who is returning for the sequel. "Going 2 b best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made."

The former Saturday Night Live cast member and Bridesmaids star has reportedly been in talks to play the wife of Brick Tamland (played by Steve Carell).

The possible casting news falls in line with director Adam McKay's plan of "creating a murderer's row of the best day players ever," which he disclosed to Indiewire. He went on to add that he likes the idea of "having every single one-line or three-line role just be someone we just love."

Anchorman: The Legend Continues is due out December 20.
