'Fifty Shades Darker' Casts Kim Basinger as Christian Grey's Ex-Lover

The Oscar winner has signed up to star as Elena Lincoln in the upcoming 'Fifty Shades of Grey' sequel.

Oscar winner Kim Basinger is joining the cast of Fifty Shades Darker.

In the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, Basinger is set to play Elena Lincoln, the former business and sexual partner of the franchise's eponymous Christian Grey, Variety reports.

Basinger is the first new cast member to sign on to the project. Stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are set to reprise their roles as Grey and his lover, Anastasia Steele, respectively.

Fifty Shades author E.L. James seemingly confirmed the casting, tweeting, "Here you go :D."

Universal is reportedly planning on shooting Fifty Shades Darker and the third installment in the franchise, Fifty Shades Freed, back to back.
