Pitch Perfect fans already had one reason to celebrate today as Universal Pictures revealed a sequel to 2012's aca-mazing movie was on the way, and now ETonline can double your daily pleasure by revealing PP star Skylar Astin is working on his debut album!
"It's in the earliest, earliest stages," Astin told ETonline at Logo's New Now Next Awards. "I've written about 12 songs on my piano. My really good friend Cris Cab, who is a recording artist, started laying down a track for me as a fun project. So we're going to see where I can take it."
Astin, who previously starred in Broadway's Spring Awakening, describes his sound as "a little John Mayer-ish" in that he writes a lot of love songs, and break-up songs. "But my greatest inspirations are Marc Broussard and Dave Matthews," he clarifies. "Right now, the music is really singer-songwriter, piano-based. A little Ray LaMontagne."
Fans of Astin's voice (ya know, people with ears) will have to wait a little bit longer before they can spin his CD because Skylar also booked the lead role in TBS' new comedy, Ground Floor. "I'm super excited about the show," Astin says. "It's got a great quirkiness to it, it's very Bill Lawrence [creator, Scrubs and Cougar Town]."
In the meantime, as an education for those who only know Skylar Astin's voice from Pitch Perfect, check out a performance that truly reveals the depths of his gift.
