Exclusive: 'Captain America' Music Inspired by New Modern Superhero
With Marvel's highly anticipated Captain America: The Winter Soldier set to hit theaters this Friday, we're taking an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the super hero flick's musical score and the award-winning composer, Henry Jackman, who crafted the movie's diversely melodic mix!
Jackman incorporated a variety of sonic-experimental sounds coupled with offbeat harmonies and a choir to create a striking, intrepid score for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford.
His modern score marks a distinct departure from the Americana-style score reflected in the 1950's in the
first Captain America and Jackman explained that the current score aimed to capture the
essence of the hero as a fish out of water in a corrupt modern day
society. "It was immediately obvious from the new story and what they were doing with it that it was going to be a completely different musical approach," he said.
Jackman -- who is no stranger to the super hero genre, having created epic scores for box office blockbusters including X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass
and G.I. Joe Retaliation -- predicted that fans of Captain America will definitely see a new kind of super hero this time around. "It was immediately obvious from the new story and what they were doing with it that it was going to be a completely different musical approach.
