So this is Katy Perry's teenage dream!

New video has surfaced online of the pop superstar on her very first tour back in 2001. Performing as a Christian artist under her real name (Katy Hudson) at the time, Perry talks songwriting, humble beginnings and her already strained relationship with her parents in the clip.

Cinematographer Jim Standridge posted the 13-minute video on Vimeo after apparently unearthing 90 minutes of footage while cleaning his office recently. “I was very fortunate to meet and hangout with this genuine talent in the beginning of her career,” he writes in the video caption.

Though it's a far cry from her current music, Perry's 2001 performances show that there's more to the artist than candy colored costumes and catchy hooks. In fact, she sure sounds a lot like Alanis Morissette in these early recordings.

Katy Hudson, Perry's debut album, was released that same year on Red Hill Records. It would be her only official album until she burst on to the pop scene in 2008 with "I Kissed a Girl" and One of the Boys.

What do you think of teenage Perry's singing chops? Coincidentally, Perry threw it back to 2001 last month with her VMAs wardrobe. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake rocked their matching denim get-ups at the 2001 American Music Awards. See more throwback VMAs fashion in the video below.
