It was "Ex's and Oh's," featured on King's debut album Love Stuff, that caught Hot Pursuit star Reese Witherspoon's ear earlier this year! ET: "American Girl" is such a classic song, do you have any early memories of listening to it? Does the song carry any meaning with you?
Elle King: It definitely does. I have a song on my album called "America's Sweetheart" so it resonates.
How did you approach the task of putting your own spin on such an iconic song?
Honestly it was really hard. Normally I put my own spin on covers but I wanted to stay true to the original. It was tough. But a great challenge none the less.
You also contributed the song "Catch Us If You Can" to the soundtrack. What can you tell us about how that track came together?
Singing songs other people write is not something that's easy for me. But you love a good challenge, and I was honored to be asked so I had a really great time singing it.
What did you enjoy most about the whole Hollywood premiere experience on Thursday?
I have to say it was the biggest red carpet I'd been on as myself. It was a crazy experience to have all those photographers saying my name. It was cool.
You showed off some acting chops in the "Ex's and Oh's" music video. Any interest in pursuing roles in film or television?
Hell yes. I want to do it all. Any aspect of performing is fun for me. You have to be open to everything. I'll try anything twice.
