Mary J. Blige Gives Voice to 'The Help'

The provocative and inspirational New York Times best-seller 'The Help' is now a big-screen movie starring Viola Davis and Emma Stone with a special song by Mary J. Blige. Get a first look behind the scenes…

'The Help' stars Emma as Skeeter, a young aspiring journalist in 1960s Mississippi looking for a story angle that disturbs her, "particularly if it bothers no one else." She turns to her own experience growing up with "the help," looking to tell the point of view of Aibileen (Viola), Minnie (Octavia Spencer) and their peers. From there, the women build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk.

"I think it brings all the women to life," says Viola, "and all of a sudden we're given some hope. We're given a voice."

Mary J. Blige says, "My aunt was one of those women, so I get it," and wrote a special song for the film called "The Living Proof."

Also starring Bryce Dallas Howard, 'The Help' arrives in theaters August 10.
