Prince Harry has arrived in the United States for two months of military helicopter training.

Buckingham Palace confirmed Friday that the prince -- a British Army Air Corps captain -- arrived at the Naval Air Facility in El Centro, CA, where he'll be flying Apache helicopters in the desert near the Mexican border. The base was one of the locations used to film the 1986 blockbuster film Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise.

Prince Harry and other British Army members will be training in California for about a month before moving on to an air base in Gila Bend, AZ, where they will fire missiles, rockets and cannons from Apache helicopters.

The U.S. bases are good combat training locations because their hot, dusty conditions replicate Afghanistan's harsh climate.
