Carrie Underwood took time during her holiday season to rescue an injured puppy who had been apparently thrown from a moving car on a highway.

Carrie wrote on her fan club blog that she saw two puppies on a median while driving an interstate highway between Oklahoma and Tennessee on December 30, according to People.com.

Carrie pulled over, only to find that one of the puppies had already died, while the other was injured. When she saw a tail wag, Carrie picked up the surviving "bloody" pup and put her in her car, according to People.com. Carrie wrote, "My guess is that the dogs were thrown out of their car by their owners on the highway."

The country superstar and "American Idol" winner got treatment for the dog that she named "Stella" at her emergency vet and even found her a home with a neighbor, though she said it was hard to say goodbye, writing, "I cried when she walked out the door."
