While Hoda Kotb, Kathie Lee Gifford, and the Today Show crew gathered at the Empire State Building yesterday to light the famous building yellow, orange and red of NBC's signature logo for Today's 60th anniversary celebration, Kris Jenner (one of Kathie Lee's closest friends) was fighting a vicious battle with the rumor mill regarding her daughter Khloe's paternity.

The subject was a hot topic for Kathie Lee, and she was quick to dismiss the gossip by telling ET that without proof, the allegations were simple "speculation."

As she vouched for the good word of her dear friend, she hoped to appeal to everyone's reason with the irrefutable fact that Kris' ex-husband Robert was very much "in love" with Khloe's mother and would likely have never raised question of his daughter's paternity to his ex-wife and widow.

"Robert Kardashian was in love with Kris his entire life from the moment he met her," defended Gifford "He was crazy about her. They remained dear, dear friends to the very end. So, keep that in mind as well when you're analyzing the situation."

Co-host Hoda Kotb chimed in as well on the argument in defense of Khloe, expressing her distain for the individuals responsible for bringing the hurtful question public.

"[Khloe is] so lovable and that to think that someone would say something that will probably be proven to be blatantly untrue, I feel bad for her, you know? You have to sit there and defend who your father is to strangers? That seems tough."
