Ricky Gervais Won't Host Golden Globes Again

Ricky Gervais says even though he "had a blast" hosting his third Golden Globe Awards, he does not plan to do the show ever again.

On his personal blog, the sharp-tongued Gervais wrote about his hosting gig on Sunday night: "I had a blast actually. It was by far my favorite of the three hosting stints." But he also added: "I've told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though. It's like a parachute jump. You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realize you didn't die and it was quite an amazing thing to do."

A marketing campaign for Sunday's Golden Globes hinted beforehand that Gervais would be just as irreverent and insult-laden as in previous shows -- perhaps even more so. But many reviewers skewered the host the next day for actually toning down his anti-celebrity gags and giving an overall lackluster performance.

For his part, Gervais said he felt the audience understood that his stinging jabs -- targeted at Kim Kardashian, Madonna, Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster among others -- were not meant to be hurtful. "The crowd were great this year too. I think they finally worked out that
my gags only seemed rude and nasty, but were actually not too scary at
all. Or they were just drunker."
