In court documents obtained by ET, "irreconcilable differences" are cited as the reason for the split. The papers go on to reveal that Klum is seeking joint custody of their children, but that primary physical custody would belong to her.
At the beginning of the year, the couple released a joint statement reading, "While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate. We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition. We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children¹s sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy."
In speaking with The Insider's Kevin Frazier just days after news broke that the couple was parting separate ways, Seal revealed that the information was leaked, as the former couple would have preferred to keep their family business private
Seal and Klum, who wed in Mexico on May 10, 2005, have four children together including Klum's seven-year-old daughter from a previous relationship whom Seal adopted.
