Cuba Ordered to Court Over Alleged Battery

New Orleans police said Wednesday that an arrest warrant for Cuba Gooding Jr. has been canceled, but the actor has been ordered to appear in court to face an allegation of misdemeanor battery.

The New Orleans Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Gooding after an incident early Tuesday morning at a bar on the city's famous Bourbon Street during which a female bartender accused the star of shoving her. A police spokesman told ET on Wednesday there is no longer a warrant after they were contacted by Gooding, who was served with a summons to appear in court for alleged misdemeanor battery.

The Jerry Maguire star's publicist confirmed to ET on Wednesday that Gooding had met with New Orleans authorities in an attempt to "swiftly resolve this misunderstanding."

Police said in a news release on Wednesday that the bartender told officers Cuba became upset with other patrons who began asking him to take photographs with them. When she asked the actor to calm down, the bartender told officers he pushed her. Police were called to the scene, but Cuba had already left the bar when officers arrived.

Cuba has been on location in New Orleans shooting the film The Butler -- a movie about a White House butler who serves eight American presidents.
