Joe Monteith on Son's Death: It Hasn't Sunk In

In his very first on-camera interview since Cory Monteith's tragic death, the star's estranged father, Joe Monteith, is opening up about that devastating day.

Visibly upset, Joe sat down with ET Canada to recall the moment he learned of his son's passing on July 13.

"When they did break the news, my wife almost fell over," he remembered. "As a matter of fact, I had to grab her."

Though he and Cory's birth mother divorced when the Glee star was just seven, the pair reconnected recently and Joe was under the impression his son was on the right track.

"I never saw anything coming like this," he said, floored to hear that his son had been found dead Saturday. "Total, total shock."

This weekend will mark the one-week anniversary of Cory's untimely passing, but Joe says he still hasn't been able to come to grips with the fact that his son is really gone forever.

"It really didn't sink in," he recalled, telling the program he had to ask the informants to repeat their tragic findings. "It really hasn't sunk in."

According to Vancouver police officials, Monteith passed away at the age of 31 due to a toxic mix of heroin and alcohol in his home country of Canada.
