Queen Pays First Visit to Royal Baby

Queen Elizabeth II is the latest family member to visit her new royal grandchild who arrived on Monday.

The 87-year-old monarch traveled Wednesday from Buckingham Palace to Kensington Palace -- the London home of Prince William and Kate Middleton -- to get her first glimpse of the two-day-old Prince of Cambridge, who is third in line to the throne.

The queen made the half-hour visit without her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who is still recovering from recent abdominal surgery. At a reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening, the ruling British monarch said she was "thrilled" at the baby's arrival, the BBCreports.

William's father Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, visited the hospital on Tuesday, as did Kate's parents.

The royal baby -- who has yet to be named -- was born Monday afternoon and introduced to the world on Tuesday when William and Kate emerged from London's St. Mary's Hospital carrying their new son swaddled in a white blanket. William later put the baby in a car and got behind the wheel himself to drive the family home.
