"He seemed really embarrassed," said 22-year-old Stephen Bates, who had been arrested and released for a vandalism misdemeanor. "A lot of people were making Lakers jokes and kind of giving him a hard time. He didn't like that at all."

Odom, who was being held on suspicion of drunken driving, spent seven seasons as a Laker before being traded to the Dallas Mavericks and most recently to the Clippers.

"All the [correctional officers] in there are also making jokes about him still, right now," Stephen told ET outside of the Van Nuys jail.

The NBA champion was pulled over in the San Fernando Valley around 3:54 a.m. by the California Highway Patrol, and was released on $15,000 bail around 8:30 a.m. Pacific. Police say the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star was unable to perform a field sobriety test and refused any chemical testing. Even if he's found not guilty on the DUI allegation, he will still lose his license for one year. He is expected in court on Sept. 27, 2013.
