Is 42 the new 22? Well, it looks like Esquire writer Tom Junod seems to think it is!

In the article titled, In Praise of 42-Year-Old Women, the writer explains why he has chosen 42 as this year’s most alluring age.

“There used to be something tragic about even the most beautiful forty-two-year-old woman,” he writes. “If she remained sexual, she was either predatory or desperate; if she remained beautiful, what gave her beauty force was the fact of its fading. And if she remained alone... well, then God help her.”

To help prove how this mindset has changed, Junod highlights a few 42-year-old actresses including Sofia Vergara, Amy Poehler, Leslie Mann, Jennifer Garner, and more!

“They have had so much going their way for such a long time that their superiority to their male counterparts has become part of the grain of American life,” Junod said. “Especially in movies and on television; indeed, it may be said that the best thing that forty-two-year-old American men have going for them is forty-two-year-old American women.”

While this article has managed to stir up quite a bit of controversy with some calling it sexist and ageist, we found it to be a great opportunity to celebrate some of our favorite 42-year-old stars!
