There's about to be a Mrs. Clooney.

ET has learned that George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin have taken out a marriage license in London. The 53-year-old actor and his fiancee, an international lawyer and activist, have taken the first legal steps required before the two tie the knot.

Clooney and his 36-year-old bride-to-be paid a visit to the Chelsea Register Office in London where they signed the legal notice of their intent to marry.

It was posted outside Chelsea Town Hall (a requirement for U.K. citizens). The announcement, in part, reads: "I Amal Ramzi Alamuddin of London, give you notice that I and George Timothy Clooney of Studio City, Los Angeles California…" After this, the notice is folded and the end of the statement is not visible.

The announcement also lists the couple's dates of birth, occupation -- Clooney is listed as "Actor and Director" while Alamuddin is listed as "Barrister" -- and their "condition," which refers to their current marital status. Alamuddin is listed as single, while Clooney's status is "previous marriage dissolved."

The actor was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993. Balsam is now married to her Mad Men co-star John Slattery.

Clooney and Alamuddin met in September 2013 and got engaged in April. The couple is reportedly planning for a wedding in Italy some time next month.
