The reason might surprise you!
Chris Hemsworth was unveiled as People magazine's newest "Sexiest Man Alive" on Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday night, and while there's no denying he is one of the most attractive men in Hollywood -- fans still freaked out over the decision.
For years, fans have advocated for Ryan Gosling to nab the top spot on the annual list. Fans even protested outside of People headquarters in 2011 when Bradley Cooper was dubbed
"sexiest."
But, it might not be all the magazine's fault.
"There is always a good pool to choose from," Julie Jordan, a Senior Writer at People, explains to ET.
"In the past, we have considered Ryan Gosling, but it's a matter of who wants and deserves it."

TheWrap.com reports that Gosling, 34, has actually turned down the title more than once.
“They tried a few times, especially during his huge year in 2011,” a source shared with the site. “The consensus was he's too serious for it, too artsy."
This news doesn't surprise us. Ryan's always been shy about his "heartthrob" status -- even joking that it made him feel "uncomfortable" when ET caught up with him last year. Check out the funny moment by watching the video above!

Other favorites in contention to top this year's list included Chris Pratt, Neil Patrick Harris, Matthew McConaughey, and even Chris' younger brother, Liam!
