Professional Surfer Bethany Hamilton Is Pregnant, Talks Motherhood With One Arm

Bethany Hamilton has been surfing throughout her whole pregnancy.

It's a boy for Bethany Hamilton!

The professional surfer is 22 weeks pregnant and is expecting her first child in early June with her husband, youth minister Adam Dirks.

In 2003, Hamilton survived a shark attack and lost her left arm. In the video posted on Feb. 8 announcing her pregnancy with Adam, the 25-year-old acknowledges the difficulty she will face.

"Motherhood with one arm, I've been kind of thinking about it. I often forget that I have one arm, but when I think about a squirming baby, changing the diaper and just me and this squirmy baby," she says. "It could be really challenging."

Hamilton is not letting any obstacle get in her way of motherhood though as she says she has learned to adjust and adapt.

She also is not giving up surfing as she admits that she has been hitting the waves throughout her whole pregnancy. "I plan to surf as long as I can," she says. "Once the belly's pretty big, maybe just mellow it out."

Her husband of one year will be there for her as he says he can change the diapers on the beach while his wife is surfing. "I'm going to be there to support my wife and support my family," Dirks says.  "I'm just going to be really stoked to be a dad."

The couple has been "prowling" for a boy name, but "you won't know until the baby's out."

Hamilton and Dirks showed off their strength as couple and placed third on The Amazing Race 25.
