The legendary record, known affectionately as the Flying Mile, was set by Sir Malcolm Campbell in 1927 when he managed to rocket along at 178.4 mph along the south coast of Wales in a specially modified Bentley known as the Napier-Campbell Blue Bird.

Elba was driving a brand new Bentley Continental GT Speed, a luxury model car with a starting price of $234,000, and managed to rip across the same infamous stretch of coast going 180.361 mph.

Elba shattered the record as part of his Discovery Channel show Idris Elba: No Limits, which will air in July.
