George Clooney Takes Amal Home to Kentucky, Hangs With the Locals

You can take the man out of Kentucky...

You can take the man out of Kentucky, but you can't take Kentucky out of the man.

George Clooney was back in the Bluegrass State this week and had his new wife Amal by his side to see where he grew up.

During their brief trip to the sleepy town of Augusta, the famous couple had no problem mingling and snapping photos with the locals and seemed eager to hit up all of the hot spots.

One woman got a big surprise when Clooney's family sang her "Happy Birthday" while at Caproni's on the River in Maysville.

The 54-year-old Tomorrowland actor was also spotted shooting hoops at Augusta High School on Wednesday as Amal, 37, watched from the sidelines. "It was fun, he's still got it," a student who played with Clooney told People, adding that "it looked like [Amal] knew the game too."

Those weren't the only stops on the Clooneys' Kentucky trip. The couple also posed for pictures at a private event held at the Augusta Pub.

Stopping off for a sweet treat, the two popped into Magee's Bakery and were more than willing to meet and greet with the staff. Owner Judy Dickson told ET that she has known Clooney for years but this was the first time she's seen him since he tied the knot in 2014.

Dickson said the couple were at her shop for about a half an hour sampling different desserts as Clooney reminisced on all his past visits to the bakery. While it was Amal's first time at Magee's, she says Clooney's wife was quite personable and chatted as if she'd known them for years.

Dickson also said Amal loved everything she tried and had never tasted their transparent pudding and tarts. Needless to say, the couple took some sweets for the road.

Beer, basketball and baked goods! All in all, the Clooney town takeover looks to have been successful.
