13 Surprising Stars Who Love Their Converse (And Will Likely Fall In Love With The New Chuck II)
By Tina Smithers
Classic Chuck Taylors are one of the few kicks nearly everyone from the rich and famous to average Joes and Janes can agree on. Traditionally associated with rock bands and Kurt Cobain lookalikes, the iconic Converse sneaker is nearly 100 years young — and it’s finally getting an update. Before you freak, rest assured that the favored look is still in tact, but the new shoe (dubbed the “Chuck II”) does boast over a dozen updates, primarily focusing on the addition of premium canvas and Nike technology… a.k.a. these babies are far more comfortable than the original!
At the still-affordable price of $70, the new, comfier Chuck will be available this Tuesday, and we have a feeling a slew of stars will be lining up to add these kicks to their ever-growing shoe collections. Like some of these surprising gals, perhaps, who have an unexpected love for the classic shoe:
The Grammy-nominated American Idol alum-- set to release her first album in six years, Right Here Right Now, on August 21 -- is a longtime fan of the Chuck Taylor. "I have a red pair of Converse that I've had since the 7th grade and absolutely love them," Jordin tells ET. "Personally, I love mine worn out and a little dirty. It tells a story."
2. Kristen Stewart
The Twilight actress is notorious for swapping five-inch stilettos for a classic pair of Chucks, especially on the red carpet. And it's not only about comfort. "I always feel like I'm teetering on stilts, especially walking around with fans," Kristin told Elle back in 2012. "I hate towering over them."
3. Michelle Obama
Perhaps the only First Lady to wear Converse (in public, anyway!), Michelle Obama has been seen in several pairs of Chucks throughout her husband's presidency.
4. Miley Cyrus
The shoe giant reportedly specially designed a hi-top version for the pop star, who has been an avid fan of Chuck Taylor All Stars for years.
5. Jennifer Aniston
The Horrible Bosses 2 actress often pairs the classic kicks with boyfriend jeans and a blazer.
6. Sarah Jessica Parker
While Carrie Bradshaw likely wouldn’t be caught dead in a pair, SJP can often be seen strolling the streets of New York City in lo-top Converse.
The "Bitch Better Have My Money" singer can often be spotted in the same pair of classic black hi-top Chucks, but when she was first starting out, she often wore colorful versions of the kicks.
The pop star has been seen in several versions of the Chuck throughout her singing career, including pink hi-tops.
9. Taylor Swift
The "Bad Blood" singer may not be the best of friends with Katy Perry, but the two do have the iconic shoe in common.
10. Selena Gomez
At one point, the 23-year-old singer and actress owned at least 20 pairs of Converse shoes.
11. Jessica Alba
The Sin City star has been seen in several different pairs of the sneaker, including white, gray and purple.
12. Reese Witherspoon
The Oscar winner often rocks a lo-top version of the sneaker when dressed down or running errands. Her kiddos can also occasionally be spotted in the classic kicks, too!
13. Christina Applegate
The actress is a longtime fan of the classic sneaker and can be seen wearing the lo-top version in the new Griswold remake, Vacation, starring Applegate alongside Ed Helms. "I wear the same Converse I've been wearing every day for six, seven, eight years," she recently told LA Racked. "They're comfortable, and in my mind, they go with everything. They're busted and they smell and they're disgusting. I usually just wear those with jeans."
