Ed Sheeran may have fired the warning shot for one of the biggest boy band supergroup collaborations the world has ever known. The British rocker posted a new Instagram photo on Wednesday of himself with The Backstreet Boys' Howie Dorough and 'NSYNC's Joey Fatone, with the caption, "We are starting a new band."

We'll be honest, Ed. We don't know if the world is ready for that. This is clearly a plot to either reignite the boy band allegiance wars of the early '00s, or end them once and for all. However, it should be noted that Backstreet/ 'NSYNC correspondences have happened before. When BSB alum Nick Carter was deciding whether to appear on Dancing With The Stars last year, he turned to Joey for advice.
"Joey was one of the inspirations because I spoke to him about it and I'm like, 'You know I'm really pondering and considering this idea of doing Dancing With the Stars. What do you think?' And he's like, 'You need to do it.' He said, 'I loved it. It was a great experience,'" he said.
So, there's a precedent! But our main concern is that Ed already fills too many boy band roles! Just consider: Given his texts with Taylor Swift, he's demonstrably the cute one.
