Selena Gomez is still feeling the effects of being criticized for her weight.
In April, the 23-year-old "Same Old Love" singer faced body shamers who accused her of gaining weight when she stepped out in a hot pink bikini in Mexico. During Selena's appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, airing Friday, she opened up about the hurtful comments.

"Yeah, it was the first time I'd ever been called fat," Selena admitted. "But it was weird because it's not just, 'Oh, she's fat.' It’s like, 'She's a mess. She's gone off the deep end.' I'm like, because I'm on a vacation wearing a bathing suit? Actually, technically, that is a little too small for me, but I didn't care."
"That's so degrading," she added about being criticized for her weight.
But Selena didn't let the haters get her down for long. "I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove," she responded on Instagram at the time, sharing another sexy swimsuit pic.
"Look, I don't what them to win," she explained about her empowering response. "It's so annoying when I see it all over the place and everybody thinks they can bring me down. So my immediate response was, I’m gonna post a picture and I’m like, 'I’m happy with me ya'll,' and that was gonna be the story the next day. I wasn't gonna let that be the story. That wasn’t the story."
Still, when ET caught up with Selena last month at New York Fashion Week, she did admit that all the criticism got to her. "I actually had never experienced it before," Selena said. "I couldn't even imagine what my fans or kids go through at school -- it's just so difficult and awful."
"I want them to know it's OK," she added.
Though who can argue how great Selena's looking these days? Late last month, she stunned in a sexy, high-cut black one-piece while taking a dip in Miami Beach.
