Lamar Odom's Aunt Says He's 'Defying the Odds' and 'Getting Stronger' Every Day
Lamar Odom's health appears to be improving nearly one week after he was found unresponsive in a Nevada brothel.
JaNean Mercer, the maternal aunt of the former NBA pro, was optimistic about her nephew's recovery in a statement issued to ET on Monday morning.
"Lamar has always been blessed with a tenacious, fighting spirit, overcoming insurmountable obstacles to achieve the impossible," Mercer said. "These past few days have been no different. He is defying the odds in his toughest battle to date with God's grace."

After being in the Intensive Care Unit of Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas since Tuesday night, a source told ET on Sunday that Odom had started breathing on his own and was "alert and stable." He has also been taken off a ventilator.
"Each day Lamar is getting stronger and reaching significant milestones in his recovery," Mercer's statement continued. "We are committed to remaining by his side as a family for our champion, who we love immensely."

Odom's estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, has been by the 35-year-old athlete's side throughout his hospitalization.
While Odom continues to show positive signs, a source told ET that him "regaining complete organ function continues to be a top medical priority." On Sunday, Odom received dialysis treatment after previously experiencing kidney failure.

In addition to Odom's immediate family, the Kardashian-Jenner clan have also shown their support throughout his recovery.
"I have faith in you. I believe in the power of prayer and positive energy!" Kim Kardashian captioned a flashback pic of herself and her brother-in-law. "Thank you all for your prayers! Lammy- I'm so happy Kendall & I could make you smile today! God is good!"
Even Kardashian family friend Justin Bieber Instagrammed that he too was praying for Odom. "We all believe in you!!" the 21-year-old pop star wrote. "Praying for you Lamar."
