6 'America's Next Top Model' Contestants Who Actually Went on to Become Famous
By John Boone
In the end, turns out no one was ever really in the running to be America’s Next Top Model.
Tyra Banks recently announced that after 12 years -- and 22 cycles! -- ANTM will come to an end, leaving the world with a little less smizing and a lot less tooching. So, no contestant actually broke into the world of top models, but these six did become famous in their own right.
How She Did on ANTM: Tipton came in third place, losing to McKey Sullivan. But Banks told her that she had "the best CoverGirl commercial in the history of America's Next Top Model." Yo!
Why She’s Famous Now: Tipton transitioned from modeling to acting, with roles opposite Steve Carell in Crazy, Stupid, Love and Scarlett Johansson in Lucy, as well as in the zombie rom-com, Warm Bodies. Last year, she had her own show on ABC, Manhattan Love Story, though it was short-lived.
2. YaYa DaCosta (Cycle 3)
How She Did on ANTM: She was runner-up to winner Eva Pigford.
Why She’s Famous Now: DaCosta went from small screen roles in All My Children and Ugly Betty to the big screen, with The Kids Are All Right and Lee Daniels’ The Butler. Now, she’s back on TV again: First, as Whitney Houston in the Lifetime movie, Whitney, and now as the star of Chicago Med.
3. Eva Marcille (Cycle 3)
How She Did on ANTM: Then known as Eva Pigford, she won her season.
Why She’s Famous Now: Marcille continued modeling for a bit after the show before turning to acting, with roles on The Young and the Restless and House of Payne. She even returned to reality TV, on Real Husbands of Hollywood. Now, she stars on the TV One series, Born Again Virgin.
How She Did on ANTM: Curry was the winner of the first cycle of Top Model.
Why She’s Famous Now: This is where the list turns towards infamy. Curry modeled for Von Dutch and Ed Hardy after her win, as well as two spreads in Playboy. But she really made a name for herself on reality TV, continuing on to Surreal Life and My Fair Brady with ex-husband Christopher Knight.
5. Lisa D’Amato (Cycle 5)
How She Did on ANTM: D’Amato placed sixth on the fifth cycle, but returned later to win the All Stars season. Mostly, she’s just remembered for that one time she peed in a diaper on TV.
Why She’s Famous Now: Again, maybe not the best reason to be famous, but: Following Top Model, D’Amato went on to appear in Celebrity Rehab, where Dr. Drew counseled her on alcohol, marijuana, amphetamines, cocaine, and mushrooms addiction. She’s also sometimes a musician.
6. Tiffany Richardson (Cycle 4)
How She Did on ANTM: Richardson was cut in a double elimination and tied for eighth place. Following her elimination, Tiffany was yelled at by Banks, which the host had never done before in her life.
Why She’s Famous Now: She’s not famous for anything except getting yelled at. But it remains the most infamous moment from the entire series and every time someone posts, “I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU, WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU” in a comments section, Tiffany’s star shines on.
Now, find out why Ariana and Frankie Grande are so obsessed with ANTM:
