Amy Heckerling just revealed who she wants to play Cher in Clueless: The Musical -- and we’re totally buggin’!

Just months after telling ET that that the valley girl fan flick was headed to Broadway, the director of the 1995 cult hit is finally opening up about her dream lead.

NEWS: The 'Clueless' Cast That Almost Happened

“I love Katy Perry,” the 61-year-old filmmaker told Vulture. “But you never know what will happen, she has a whole big schedule. It was like ‘I love it, I wish I could do it.’"

Finding the perfect cast to play the Bronson Alcott High School socialites was one of Heckerling’s biggest concerns.

When ET caught up with Hecklering in June, she admitted casting was “going to be the main problem.”

Could any actress really fill Alicia Silverstone’s satin shoes? As if!

Whoever is cast, Heckerling promises that fans will be totally into the music -- although still no details were given on the potential songs.

“I don’t think you will go, ‘Oh, it’s just karaoke to the movie, or it is an entirely different animal,’” she explained to Vulture. “It is true to the movie, but it sings, hopefully.”

Although Clueless is expected to hit the stage in 2016, Heckerling says her excitement is making her a bit impatient.
