The Carolina Panthers QB picked an interesting name for his baby boy.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton surprised fans on Dec. 30 when he announced that he and longtime girlfriend Kia Proctor had welcomed their first child, a baby boy.

On Thursday, Newton -- who is enjoying a bye week as his team prepares for the NFL playoffs -- revealed his newborn son’s name on his practice jersey. ESPN reporter David Newton (no relation) confirmed that Newton and Proctor named their baby boy Chosen Sebastian Newton.

It’s a unique name, fitting for the son of one of the NFL’s most unique and versatile talents. Even more interesting, Newton wears No. 1 for the Panthers, so when the name and number on his practice jersey are combined, it reads “Chosen One.”

“That’s different and unique, just like him," Carolina cornerback Josh Norman told ESPN. “Everybody has their way of doing things. He has his."

Newton announced the birth of his son on Twitter, adding that he and Proctor kept the pregnancy under wraps so as not to cause a distraction as the Panthers completed the regular season and made the push to the playoffs.
