Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s marriage might be over, but they’re still in each other’s lives, staying close for the sake of their three kids: 10-year-old Violet, 6-year-old Seraphina, and 4-year-old Samuel.

“We’re good friends and we’re doing our best,” Affleck told Ellen on Wednesday. “Our kids are fabulous and we’re working our best for them.”

The 43-year-old actor also shared an adorable anecdote about Samuel, who has apparently taken his father’s role as the Caped Crusader in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice very seriously.

“My son thinks it’s really cool,” Affleck said of his part in the DC superhero battle epic, which hits theaters March 26. “He came to the set, he saw me. He was a little bit suspicious too, he was like, ‘Is that the real Superman?’”

Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel isn’t the only real-life superhero in young Samuel’s world, apparently. According to Affleck, the tot now believes that his dad is actually Batman.

“He thinks I’m in the Batcave now,” the actor admitted with a smile. “I say to him, 'Dad’s gotta go away now,' and he goes, ‘You’re going to the Batcave.’”

“I’m like, ‘That’s right, Batcave,’ and he says ‘Watch out for the Joker,’” Affleck continued. “I’m like, ‘I’ll look out for him!’”
