Chris Martin paid tribute to David Bowie on Monday night, delivering a simple but sweet performance alongside Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

With Martin showing off his piano-playing skills and Fallon on vocals, the pair covered Bowie's 1971 track, "Life on Mars?" Of course, no Tonight Show musical performance would be complete without a cameo from The Roots. Enter Captain Kirk Douglas, lending a hand on the guitar. Watch below.

Prior to Bowie's death, Martin revealed that the music icon had once declined to collaborate with his band.

"One time I sent him a song to ask him to sing on it. He called me and said, 'It's not one of your best,'" Martin admitted at the BBC Music Awards in 2014. "He's got very high standards and I appreciate that. It inspires the rest of us to keep our standards high."
