The singer also tells ET that Robert Downey Jr. left a message in rehab.

Aaron Carter is setting the record straight on rumors surrounding his sobriety.

The 28-year-old singer -- who is busy promoting his new album, LØVË -- sat down with ET's Katie Krause exclusively to talk about his time in rehab and his life after getting treatment. "I drink wine. I smoke weed. I have anxiety problems, I take medication for anxiety. I mean, it's just what it is," he admitted. "The misconceptions are that I'm a meth head, or I'm a crackhead, or I'm a drug addict, or I'm this or that."

Carter, who spent a month at the Betty Ford Center in 2011, says he has "never" been addicted to those drugs, and thinks the rumors came from him being "skinny."

Nick Carter's younger brother recalls that while in rehab, he started to look up to actor Robert Downey Jr., who spent some time at the Betty Ford Center in 1998. "I probably shouldn't even say this, but I stayed in the same room that Robert Downey Jr. stayed in, and he became my idol because of Iron Man and what he did with his career," he said. "Then I made him my mentor without him even knowing about it."

The former Dancing With the Stars contestant claims that Downey Jr. wrote a message on a cork board for those entering the facility after him that reads: "I am here with you all."

Carter added, "I'm not going to abuse things. It's just how I'm gonna do my life."
