Khloe Kardashian thinks a good workout is better than therapy! The new Shape magazine cover girl opened up about the hardship of the last few years and how she’s turned her turmoil into a healthy lifestyle.

“When Lamar [Odom] and I broke up, I had all these emotions that I didn’t know what to do with,” she told the magazine. “Some people suggested therapy, but instead I joined my local Equinox gym, where I’d get on an elliptical and watch bad reality TV. As a result, I started losing weight.”

And the reality star’s weight loss journey continued until her ex was hospitalized last fall after being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel. She stayed by his side throughout, but admitted that her stress from the situation contributed to a relapse of her former unhealthy routines.

“When Lamar was in the hospital, I stopped doing the one thing I really needed: exercise,” she said. “The gym takes all the anxiety away when I’m overwhelmed or stressed out.”

These days, the Strong Looks Better Naked author is back to her regular workouts, even doing “sister” days with Kim and Kourtney Kardashian for some extra motivation.

The fitness pro dished on the importance of giving yourself some extra incentive before hitting the gym. She noted that buying a “cute outfit” to workout in can help get that “extra squat or an extra lunge.”

She also feels it’s key to look your best in order to feel your best.

“I also always wear hoop earrings; they’re like my security blanket,” she said. “I’m inspired to do an extra squat or an extra lunge. People laugh at me, but why not? They make me feel more dressed up. I also wear makeup when I work out. I put on a tinted moisturizer, mascara, and cherry lip balm, and fill in my eyebrows. If I feel cuter with a little lip color and mascara, why should anybody else care?”
