"Taylor and Adam had no big blowout fight, but the romance just was not there anymore for them. Adam is the one that ended it,” a source revealed to E! News. “It was all done in a very mature fashion. Taylor is pretty upset but they are still in communication."
“Taylor's heart was more in it than he was. He started to lose interest over the past few months, but really tried to not just break up," an insider added.
Harris was involved in a car crash on May 20 and the two were last spotted together the day before arriving back to Los Angeles after their vacation to Great Exuma Island, Bahamas, ET has learned. There was no sign of trouble in paradise at the time as they were seen kissing outside a car. ET can also confirm Swift supported him and mended him back to health following the accident.
"[Harris] said on multiple occasions that he was intimidated by Taylor, which is why he would not attend any events where she was being honored, or any award shows unless he was nominated," a friend of Swift told People. Harris was noticeably missing from the Met Gala in early May, in which Swift was the co-chair of the event. An insider close Harris noted the music producer didn't think things between them were "leading anywhere."
Swift, who is known for penning lyrics about her famous exes, certainly has plenty of loving moments with Harris that would make for some amazing new tracks.
“It's a lot more mature way of looking at a love that was wonderful until it was terrible, and both people got hurt from it — but one of those people happened to be a songwriter,” she said during a 2013 interview with New York Magazine while discussing breakup ballads from her hit album, Red.
Swift has been romantically linked in the past to stars like Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner, Conor Kennedy, Joe Jonas and John Mayer.
“So what are you going to do? Did you not Wikipedia me before you called me up [for a date]?" the “Blank Space” singer quipped.
Swift and Harris have yet to speak out on the split. For more on the exes, watch below:
