George Clooney Arrested During Protest
George Clooney was arrested on Friday along with other protesters outside the Sudanese Embassy in Washington DC.
Clooney, 50, and his father Nick were among the demonstrators taken into custody after crossing a police line outside the embassy. The Academy Award-winning actor was put in handcuffs and transported to Washington's Metropolitan Police Department for processing, but was released several hours later after paying a $100 fine.
George Clooney Returns to Sudan Crisis
Clooney recently returned from Sudan and this week met with President Barack Obama and testified in the U.S. Senate in support of the protest movement, which accuses the country's president, Omar al-Bashir, of provoking a humanitarian crisis and blocking food and aid from entering a volatile region near the county's border with South Sudan.

Clooney explained that his arrest will hopefully draw much-needed attention to the main Sudan issues. "The first question is something immediate -- and immediately, we need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the Sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the world," he told reporters. He added that the second objective "is for the government in Khartoum to stop randomly killing its own innocent men, women and children. Stop raping them and stop starving them. That's all we ask."
