Charlize Theron isn't afraid to poke a little fun at herself.
The 41-year-old actress was honored at the amfAR Inspiration Gala in Los Angeles on Thursday, and as she took the stage to accept her Inspiration Award, comedian and presenter Chelsea Handler made a joke about her fuller figure.
"Yes, I am very fat right now," Theron, who normally rocks body-hugging ensembles on the red carpet, responded. For this occasion, she opted for a loose-fitting black lace dress, which she paired with a tailored jacket, matching clutch and diamond chandelier earrings.
Last month, a source confirmed to ET that Theron had gained 35 pounds for her new film, Tully, in which she portrays Marlo, a mother of three who recently gave birth. The actress was recently spotted on the Vancouver, Canada, set, donning a scoop-neck T-shirt, flannel, jeans and sneakers.
Theron was honored by amfAR for her work in fighting HIV/AIDS with the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. She later took to Instagram to thank the organization for "an amazing night."
"Your relentless work towards a cure is truly inspirational," she wrote. "The fight to end HIV/AIDS is far from over yet I am more motivated than ever to continue fighting through my work with @ctaop #amfARInspiration #genendit."
