The 'Hairspray Live!' Cast Just Did the Most Epic Mannequin Challenge Ever
By Philiana Ng
The Hairspray Live! cast may have just dropped the mic on the Internet’s newest obsession.
Pressing a literal pause on Wednesday's rehearsals for their upcoming live NBC production, the stars accomplished one of the most elaborate Mannequin Challenges ever. In the viral craze, participants stand perfectly still in a dramatic pose while a camera pans across a room.
Set to a new version of “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” the video pans over crewmembers before it sweeps across the soundstage to capture Derek Hough, Maddie Baillio, Shahadi Wright, Dove Cameron, Garrett Clayton, Harvey Fierstein, Martin Short, Ephraim Sykes and the Hairspray Live! ensemble mid-moment.
While others have jumped on the Mannequin Challenge train -- from Destiny’s Child and Hillary Clinton to Adele andBlac Chyna -- this one is impressive because of its grandiose nature and the detail that went into it.
There’s the falling script pages, the spilt coffee cups, Fierstein holding that difficult “falling on the chair” pose, Sykes showing off his amazing balance and Baillio swiftly changing from scene to scene without fail.
Good luck topping this one!
On Thursday, legendary rocker Paul McCartney joined in on the fun, referencing Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles,” the song often used in the background of the Mannequin Challenge.
Hairspray Live! airs Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
