The 37-year-old actress says 10-year-old daughter Suri 'comes first.'
Katie Holmes may be a famous actress -- and newly minted director, thanks to her film, All We Had -- but her favorite job is being a mom.
In fact, the Touched With Fire star's 10-year-old daughter, Suri, even takes priority while Holmes is out promoting her big projects.
"When I'm not on set, I'm being a mom. I'm doing mom stuff," the 37-year-old actress says in a new interview with Modern Luxury.
"When I go to an event, I leave at 10 p.m. because it's really important to me to be a mom that is dependable," she shares.

While Holmes is there for her daughter as much as she can be, it's also important to the actress that Suri is surrounded by other members of her family.
"We do a lot of cousin time with my nieces and nephews. I think the most important thing in my life is giving my child the childhood I want her to have," she reveals. "That comes first. That dictates where I work and when I work because it's my main job right now."

Holmes has just finished her work directing and starring in All We Had, which she says centers on a mother-daughter relationship.
"A mother's love is greater than anything; it's definitely a universal theme," she states of the film, in which her character, Rita, struggles while raising her 13-year-old daughter, Ruthie.
"I think seeing Ruthie fight her mother is natural to [any] mother/daughter relationship," Holmes adds. "But Rita is very much a child herself, which makes them more original in their relationship. I felt like we haven't seen that kind of story too much between mother and daughter. I thought that was worth telling."
