Channing Tatum is a man of his word.

The 36-year-old Magic Mike star gave himself the challenge of picking up a new skill in 2017, and he's doing just that. Over the weekend, he shared a video showing his progress in mastering the ivories.

"Keeping my New Year's resolution to 'learn new things,'" Tatum wrote along with the 60-second video. "But teaching myself piano is brutal. Got to get some legit lessons soon."

In the clip, tweeted Sunday, Tatum plays a bit of Beethoven's "Fur Elise."

"I'm going to shame myself into getting better by showing you where I'm at two and a half weeks into learning how to play the piano," Tatum says in the video. "Bear with me. This is going to be brutal."

Despite his modesty, his piano playing actually sounds pretty good after less than three weeks with no lessons.

Tatum seems to be following a new trend in Hollywood. Last year, Ryan Gosling spent four hours a day for three months to learn piano for his role in La La Land.

"Piano is always something I wish I had the time to learn," Gosling admitted in a La La Land featurette. "In what other job is it a part of your job to sit in front of a piano for three months and play? It was really one of the most fulfilling pre-production periods that I've ever had."
