The Magic Mike actor shares how he knew the stunning Modern Family star was the one for him pretty quickly.

"We realized very early on that we each had to put the other person's happiness and well-being head of our own," he tells the magazine. "Once you realize that kind of trust has manifested, you hang on for dear life. Or in my case, you go and buy a ring."

"My heart was melting and I simply said, 'But of course!'" Vergara says of the romantic proposal.

Naturally, the Colombian actress also knew Manganiello was pretty special. Vergara explains why she hadn't moved in with anyone until her 24-year-old son, Manolo, went to college.

"Partly because I hadn't found the right person and I knew that if I moved in with someone, it would have a psychological effect on my son," she shares. "I wasn't going to bring a man into my son's home. I think that's why I always wanted long-distance relationships, with men in other countries."

Vergara says a big reason why their relationship works is their shared sense of humor.

"He is so funny and ever since we met, that has been really important," she gushes. "We even talk to each other all the time in this little voice that we made up, like a couple of dorks. Whoever heard us, would say, 'What's their problem?'"

And Manganiello even has an artistic side! The fitness buff talks about his not so well-known hobby as an art collector.

"I have always made it a habit of going to art galleries and openings," he reveals. "Some of my friends are some of the biggest artists working today and others have made careers of collecting and dealing art. So when it came time to decorating the new house, along with the works I had collected over the years, I had new paintings/works commissioned."

The couple can certainly afford their stunning Los Angeles home. In September, Vergara topped Forbes' "World's Highest-Paid TV Actresses" list for the fifth time in a row. Vergara addresses criticism that her Modern Family character, Gloria, perpetuates stereotypes about Latina women.

"What's wrong with being a stereotype?" Sofia responds. "Gloria's character is inspired by my mom and my aunt. They are both Latina women who grew up in Colombia, like me. They love color, prints and shoes. I'm like that too: a voluptuous, intense, happy woman, who wants to get involved in everything with her partner to help."

Last month, Vergara sweetly wished her "wonderful" hubby a happy 40th birthday, when the two celebrated with a romantic trip to Bora Bora. Watch below!
