Lily Collins on How Her Parents Influence Her Romantic Relationships: I'm 'Attracted to Mysterious Creatives'

The 28-year-old actress says her mom has also taught her the value of independence.

Lily Collins may not have always had the best relationship with her father, but she knows his artistic side has an impact on her dating life.

During her appearance on The Talk on Wednesday, the 28-year-old actress opened up about how her parents, musician Phil Collins, socialite Jill Tavelman, have influenced her love life.

"I find that I’m really attracted to mysterious creatives, and I love people that are able to put their emotions out there for not just the world to see, but just that are giving of their emotions, but a little bit mysterious and elusive as well," she confessed.

While Collins, who was previously linked to Jamie Campbell Bower and Nick Jonas, is attracted to those in touch with their emotions, she said she's also learned the value of independence.

"My mom is such a strong, independent, strong-willed woman and she always taught me to accept my worth for how I viewed myself and female empowerment, and it’s okay to be independent and also need someone at the same time," she said. "I kinda get to be both."

Collins recently made headlines for an open letter she wrote to her father in her new memoir, Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me, forgiving him for "not being the dad" she expected after her parents split.
