Even the Queen of Talk was surprised to learn that the her 'A Wrinkle In Time' co-star was expecting.
Mindy Kaling's fans weren't the only ones surprised to hear that she was expecting her first child.
The 38-year-old actress-writer was barely showing when she stepped out in a little black dress for the Hulu Summer Television Critics Association event on Thursday in Beverly Hills, but according to her A Wrinkle in Time co-star, Oprah Winfrey, The Mindy Project star is pretty far along. The Queen of Talk admitted to People that she was taken aback upon hearing of Kaling's pregnancy while at Disney's D23 expo earlier this month in Anaheim, California.
“That’s when she told me. My mouth dropped,” Winfrey recalled. ” ‘What did you just say?’ she said, ‘Oh, Oprah, I don’t think you know. I’m five months pregnant.’ And I said, ‘WHAAAAT?!’ ”
The 63-year-old star quipped that she then started asking everyone around her when they found out about Kaling's pregnancy. "I said to [Reese Witherspoon], ‘Did you know?’ and she said, ‘I just found out, too.’ And then I said to [Wrinkle director Ava DuVernay], ‘Did you know?’ And she said, ‘I just found out.’”
While Winfrey was caught off guard by Kaling's news, she was quick to note that she's "excited for her."
Kaling has yet to address her pregnancy publicly or reveal the identity of the father, but while on The Mindy Project's TCA panel this week, she did disclose that she plans to address mom shaming on an episode of her Hulu series, where she portrays a single mother. "It was really fun and hit a lot of those juicy ripped-from-the-blogger-headline storylines," she noted.
Kaling also shared that it was the decision of those who've worked on the series to end it after the upcoming sixth season. "We just have a good finale that we've known about for a while," she teased.
