The actress opens up to host Chelsea Handler about her 18-year-old daughter, Lily.
Kate Beckinsale knows that dealing with the entertainment industry's unrealistic beauty standards is "rough."
The 44-year-old actress was a guest on Friday's episode of Chelsea, which is streaming on Netflix, where she opened up about the lessons she's taught her 18-year-old daughter, Lily, about body image.

"The thing that I tell her, which is something that I found really helpful probably about her age, is, I found this Susan Faludi book called Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women," she explains to Chelsea Handler. "There's a moment in that where she talks about how when, politically, women make big strides it seems to always happen that the fashion becomes very completely unattainable body type. And it's this sort of unconscious way of controlling women to distract them into a kind of self-loathing.
"You know, because you get the vote, but it means either you can't have any boobs because you have to be a flap, that kind of thing," she continues. "Like, I think of that. Now you're supposed to have kind of a ridiculous a** and ridiculous boobs and a tiny waist and everything else. And meanwhile a lot of political s**t is happening that's maybe we can't have abortions anymore or that sort of thing."
She continues on, telling Handler that the more we get sucked in and "concentrate on our own a**," the more stuff can happen to us.
She also discussed what it's like co-parenting with ex Michael Sheen. The two dated from 1995-2003. Sheen has been dating comedian Sarah Silverman since 2014.
"I think the thing is, if you both really put your kid's well-being first, and share a sense of humor, you're sort of halfway there," Beckinsale, who's currently dating 21-year-old actor Matt Rife, says.

Beckinsale first sparked romance rumors with Rife in June when the two were spotted kissing in West Hollywood, California. The new relationship comes following her split from director Len Wiseman. The two said "I do" in 2004 and filed for divorce in 2016.
