'Gossip Girl' Star Kelly Rutherford Bankrupt
Gossip Girl star Kelly Rutherford has filed for bankruptcy amid an expensive international custody battle with her ex-husband over their two children.
In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition filed in May and obtained by ABC News, the 44-year-old actress claims debts of more than $2 million, compared to just $23,937 in assets. The filing lists Rutherford's current monthly income at $1,279.33 -- down from the $40,000 per month she earned during last year's final season of Gossip Girl.
According to the documents, the star owes $358,960 in 2012 taxes and has about $80,000 in credit card debt. The legal papers also show that she's had to borrow tens of thousands of dollars from friends and family members. Rutherford reportedly spent about $1.5 million in legal fees during her divorce and custody fight.
In her custody battle with ex-husband Daniel Giersch, a judge ordered that their children, ages 5 and 3, are to remain in France with Giersch and Rutherford has to travel there to see them.
