Sarah Jessica Parker Launches First Bridal Collection
By Desiree Murphy
Brides-to-be can now walk down the aisle in modern styles that are Carrie Bradshaw approved!
On Tuesday, Sarah Jessica Parker teamed up with Gilt.com to launch the SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker Bridal collection, the Sex and the City star's first-ever ready-to-wear bridal line.
Designed in New York City, the 10-piece collection, which features dresses, skirts, bodysuits and jumpsuits, was created as a way to celebrate the "non-traditional bride," with pieces that can be worn down the aisle "and way beyond."
"Women really want to feel like themselves ... women come in all sizes and shapes, all backgrounds and colors, and I just knew that I had to produce something that I felt proud of -- and that I wanted to wear, that would last," Parker tells Gilt, explaining that she designed the pieces so that they could also be worn for other special occasions. "Weddings don't have to be traditional. The woman who wears this collection is every woman. She can work a red carpet or the concrete city streets."
Parker, who is wearing the ballerina-inspired arabesque bodysuit in blush ($325) and teatro skirt in white ($1,795) in the photo above, describes the colors in her collection as "friendly." Most of the pieces are available in traditional white, while others feature blush, pale gray, poppy red, blue and black hues.
In addition to the ethereal dresses and playful feathered skirts, the line also features jumpsuits and bodysuits, which are not only extremely versatile, but also completely on-trend. "[The bodysuit] tends to be really flattering," Parker says. "It's a really fluid piece, it moves really well in a closet." We can absolutely see ourselves styling this bodysuit with jeans, just like SJP.
Currently, Gilt is also offering 15 exclusive styles from the SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker Footwear collection, which perfectly complement the stunning bridal looks. The handmade shoes are all sourced in Italy, and feature beautiful fabrications, with satin and leather styles adorned with ornaments.
"I've seen so many women walking down the aisle wearing our shoes," Parker says. "Silhouettes I would have never thought of as traditionally 'bridal.'"
Parker celebrated the collection's official launch on Monday, with a party at the Serge Normant Salon in New York City, where models posed with the 53-year-old actress and showed off some of her fabulous pieces.
"Not only is Sarah Jessica Parker's style known around the world, her point of view is one-of-a-kind," Chief Merchant of Gilt, Tom Ott, said in a statement at the time. "[She] brings impeccable taste and fashion sensibility to life in this collection."
