Jennifer Lopez on Pia Toscano's 'Idol' Elimination: 'I'm Still Shocked'

"American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez says she's "still shocked" the morning after the surprise elimination of frontrunner Pia Toscano from the FOX reality singing competition.

"Idol" host Ryan Seacrest recapped the events of last night's shocker on his 102.7 KIIS FM morning radio show, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, saying that Lopez was in tears even after the show ended. J.Lo called in to share her feelings about what went down.

"Honestly, I don't know what happened," said Jennifer. "The only thing I could think was that people thought she was safe, as I did. I thought she'd be around at least 'til the top five, maybe even the top two. … I'm surprised that everybody didn't see though whatever it was that could have been working against her, to see that she was one of the most talented singers that we had. … I'm really, really surprised and I'm still shocked."

J.Lo explained that she advised Pia afterwards, "In this business there's always doors that are slammed in your face. I've had tons of doors slammed in my face. I told her to stay pure in her heart, have faith, and know that if this wasn't the path for her, then there is something bigger for her."

J.Lo added that she had pushed Pia to excel: "It's like when you see those prized students and you're hardest on them because you know that they have the most potential. … I wanted her to shine, and -- I don't know, I'm still upset."

"American Idol" continues Wednesday on FOX.
