WATCH: First Male Elimination for 'American Idol' Season 10

Previously, the 10th season of "American Idol" had only seen ladies eliminated from the top 13 in competition, but that all changed on Thursday night when the first man fell.

Paul McDonald took the bullet for the remaining five-man roster, saying goodbye to the "American Idol" stage tonight.

Ryan Seacrest offered encouragement to the 26-year-old from Huntsville, Alabama, saying, "You've had such an amazing impact, man, on this show," while the audience and judges gave a standing ovation.

Paul held his head high, belting out Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" as his "Idol" run came to an end.

The night also came with another shocker as Rihanna announced that her upcoming "Loud" tour will give fans a whole new meaning for the term VIP.

"I'm really not supposed to say this, but I want to get you excited," said the pop star. "We're building two sections on the stage where the fans can actually be in the show and be in the stage and be closer than they've ever been."

Kelly Clarkson also performed on Thursday's elimination show, singing "Don't You Wanna Stay" with country star Jason Aldean.

Watch "American Idol" Wednesday and Thursday nights on FOX.
